Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface takes his tally for the season to 10 with goal against Qarabag

Victor Boniface got his 10th goal in Bayer Leverkusen colours on Thursday night when the Bundesliga table toppers thrashed Qarabağ 5-1 on the third matchday of the UEFA Europa League played at the BayArena.

German international Florian Wirtz opened the scoring five minutes after the start of the encounter but Toral Bayramov drew level for Qarabağ at minute 16.

Alejandro Grimaldo restored Bayer Leverkusen's lead in the 29th minute before Boniface gave the home side a two-goal cushion six minutes later.

The Super Eagles forward got his goal with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area having collected a pass from Wirtz.

Ten minutes into the second half, Grimaldo compounded the away side's woes with a precise strike before Edmond Tapsoba rounded up the scoring for Xabi Alonso's side.

Before he was replaced by Patrik Schick, Boniface recorded 33 touches of the ball, completed 87% of his passes and was also guilty of missing one big chance.

The 22-year-old has now recorded 3 goal contributions in the Europa League this season having scored two goals and provided one assist.
