Take-ons inside the opposition box: Tricky Bayer striker Boniface leads the way ahead of Man Utd star
Published: October 27, 2023
Last season's UEFA Europa League top scorer Victor Boniface is the player with the most take-ons completed in the opposition box across the top five leagues in Europe.
According to the statisticians at Squawka, the tricky Bayer Leverkusen striker has completed 12 dribbles inside the opposition penalty area, two more than Manchester United star Marcus Rashford who sits in second with 10.
Remarkably, this season is the first the 22-year-old will feature in any of the top five leagues in Europe with his previous playing experience being in the Eliteserien, the Norwegian top-flight and Jupiler Pro League, the Belgian top-tier division.
Boniface has adapted to the Bundesliga like a duck to water over the last two months, registering ten goal involvements (7 goals, 3 assists) in his first eight games.
His brilliant form has also seen him earn a place in the Super Eagles squad and could lead the attack of the African giants next month in their World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe respectively if Victor Osimhen doesn't recover from his injury.
Boniface took home the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month crown for August and claimed the award for a second straight month in September.
