Awoniyi makes return from injury as a substitute in Nottingham Forest's 3-0 loss to Liverpool
Published: October 29, 2023
Taiwo Awoniyi made his return from injury in Nottingham Forest's 3-0 loss to Liverpool on matchday 10 of the Premier League played at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Diogo Jota put Liverpool ahead in the 31st minute from a tap-in after Darwin Núñez's shot was parried away by Matt Turner.
Núñez gave the home side a two-goal cushion four minutes later with another tap-in from Dominik Szoboszlai's pass.
Salah compounded the away side's woes in the 77th minute having taken advantage of judgment in error from Turner.
Awoniyi came on in the 69th minute, replacing Ivorian international Willy Boly as Steve Copper sought to salvage something from the encounter.
The Super Eagles forward could not influence the scoreline as he only made 5 touches of the ball and had no shot on goal.
Today's appearance was his third against the Reds but his first appearance since matchday seven against Brentford.
The return of the Nigerian international will be a huge boost for Forest who have been without a win since September.
Cooper's side sit in 16th position at the moment with ten points, five points adrift of the relegation zone.
