'Lots of them did' - Onuoha names five players that impressed him in Man City's win against Man Utd
Published: October 30, 2023
In arguably the biggest game in England, Manchester City were some miles ahead of Manchester United in the tenth round of matches in the Premier League, thrashing their city rivals 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
Pep Guardiola's team had 21 shots on goal, fourteen more than their city rivals, and 60 percent of the possession.
In a one-sided game, City ran out comfortable winners thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland and an additional tally from Phil Foden.
Manchester United had a decent first half as they trailed only by one goal but crumbled in the second half.
Former Manchester City central defender Nedum Onuoha gushed over the performance of the Citizens and singled out five of their players for praise, namely John Stones, Jack Grealish, Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Phl Foden.
The Warri native, who was on the books of Manchester City for 16 years, noted that Croatia international Joško Gvardiol was jittery in the opening exchanges of the encounter.
Reacting to the Manchester derby, Onuoha said on ESPN FC: "They really did, the key guy as you can see is Rodri in terms of dictating that tempo but when you see Bernardo Silva in there as well and a fully fit John Stones stepping into midfield, he was so, so good.
"I thought Grealish played well, I thought Foden played well. Lots of them did but a few nerves early maybe with Gvardiol but realistically the way they played, it was so, so good.
"That was them at their free flowing best and asked so many questions of United, and they didn't really have the answers.
"Fair play to them, they went through a bit of sticky spell for a couple of weeks back there. If they play like this, definitely without a doubt they got more to come.
"If they can stay afloat until maybe December time, then in comes one Kevin De Bruyne who is one of the best players in the world and they seem to be doing fine without him for now."
Manchester City are now third in the Premier League table, level on points with Arsenal but below them on goals scored, while Manchester United are in eighth place.
