'Difficult when your strikers are out' - Aina hopes Nottingham Forest move on after defeat to Liverpool
Published: October 30, 2023
Ola Aina has shared his thoughts on Nottingham Forest's 3-0 loss to Liverpool in a Premier League match at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Nigeria international confessed that Nottingham Forest struggled to create meaningful chances for most part of the encounter, with no recognized out-and-out striker on the pitch until the 69th minute when Taiwo Awoniyi entered the game as a substitute in what his first appearance for the club since October 1.
Goals from Liverpool front three Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah condemned Steve Cooper's side to their fourth loss of the season in the Premier League.
Manager Steve Cooper could not count on the services of forwards Chris Wood (hamstring), Divock Origi (hip) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (thigh) due to injuries.
The Welsh football tactician had planned to give the returning Awoniyi a few minutes against his former employers but was forced to throw the Super Eagles centre forward into the fray with his side trailing by two goals.
Speaking to Nottingham Forest's official website post-match, Aina said: "After we conceded, they had the momentum and ran away with it really.
"It’s always going to be difficult when your strikers are out, but nevertheless it’s a team effort and we have to put the work in which I felt we did for the majority of the game.
"Everyone knows how hard the Premier League is, every game is different so it will still be difficult going forward. It’s going to be a challenge and one we’re all looking forward to.
"I feel like the team can build and hopefully we get better results going forward."
Aina and his teammates welcome an in-form Aston Villa side to the City Ground on Sunday, with the Reds hoping to win for the first time in seven Premier League games.
