16yo player of Nigerian descent promoted to Arsenal first team training pre-West Ham United
Published: October 31, 2023
Arsenal have completed their preparations for Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash against West Ham United at the London Stadium, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The biggest novelty in Tuesday's training session at London Colney was none other than Ethan Nwaneri - the youngest player in history to debut in the English top flight.
The 16-year-old Nwaneri had been recovering from an undisclosed injury prior to today's training session, and has not featured for club and country since netting on his UEFA Youth League debut against PSV Eindhoven,
Since that game on September 20, the first year scholar was conspicuously missing from the gameday squad in six consecutive matches - two in the UEFA Youth League, three in the Premier League 2 and one in the EFL Trophy.
The attacking midfielder was on a good run of form prior to his spell on the sidelines, notching five goals and two assists across six matches in all competitions for Arsenal's development squad and U19s.
Nwaneri was able to take part in contact training today without any issues and it remains to be seen whether he will be named in the matchday squad to face the Hammers.
He has not been called up for an Arsenal first team game since his history-making debut against Brentford on September 18, 2022.
A place in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup is up for grabs at the London Stadium tomorrow.
