George battles Lionesses dazzler Lauren James, 4 others for Chelsea Goal of the Month
Published: November 02, 2023
Chelsea have compiled a shortlist of the seven best strikes across the club during the month of October with Flying Eagles-eligible winger Tyrique George in the running for the Goal of the Month award.
The England underage international of Nigerian descent has been nominated for his goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the U18 Premier League on October 28.
After setting up the opening goal netted by Somto Boniface, George turned from provider to scorer in the 69th minute when he ripped the ball into the top corner from just outside the area to make it 3-2 in favour of Chelsea.
The other five contenders for Chelsea's Goal of the Month are Lionesses dazzler Lauren James, Mykhailo Mudryk who has been double nominated for goals against Fulham and Arsenal, Nicolas Jackson, Erin Cuthbert and Sjoeke Nusken.
George has been one of the standout players for Chelsea's youth teams in the 2023-2024 campaign with four goals in five games in the U18 Premier League and has made a couple of appearances off the bench for the development squad in the Premier League 2.
The exciting winger has notched four goals in the Premier League International Cup and Premier League Cup, taking his tally for the season to eight in all competitions.
George is age-eligible to represent England at the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup but manager Ryan Garry has decided to omit him and Somto Boniface from the 21-man squad announced on Thursday.
