England make move to provisionally cap-tie Man City, Tottenham starlets of Nigerian descent
Published: November 02, 2023
The English Football Association have made a move to provisionally cap-tie two talented teenagers of Nigerian descent in the shape of Manchester City defender Leke Drake and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Callum Olusesi.
Drake and Olusesi have been named in the Young Lions squad for the qualifying round of the 2023-24 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
The duo would be provisionally cap-tied to England with an appearance in any of the matches this month.
Leke Drake, who is one of the six defenders selected by coach Greg Lincoln, has played three games for the MU17s since debuting for the age group in September.
Callum Olusesi has been in excellent form for Tottenham in the U18 Premier League, registering one goal and two assists in five matches.
The talented midfielder has made 5 appearances for Lincoln's side, in friendlies against Portugal, Morocco, Spain and Norway (2).
The Young Lions' qualifying round begins on Friday against the Faroe Islands before they take on Kosovo on Monday and face Croatia next Thursday.
The three games will be played in Croatia and England will be hoping to make it to the elite round of qualifiers in March 2024.
