Chelsea schoolboy who scored 62 goals last season to spark international tug of war; eligible for Nigeria, 2 others
Published: November 05, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that talented Chelsea schoolboy Chizzy Ezenwata is set to spark an international tug of war on the back of his excellent displays for the youth team of the Blues.
Ezenwata turned down a new contract at Charlton Athletic before his move to Chelsea last month following a successful trial.
Having sorted out his club future, the 15-year-old and his advisers now have to make a decision on his international future, with the striker eligible to represent the national teams of England, Nigeria and Cameroon.
He is widely regarded as one of the best and top strikers in England for his age group and has already been tipped for a promising future.
Less than two weeks after completing his move to Chelsea, Ezenwata helped the Stamford Bridge outfit to win the Premier League U16 International Tournament by scoring in the showpiece game against Fulham.
During his time at Charlton Athletic, he drew plaudits for his goalscoring abilities, having amassed over 40 goals and 20 assists in his U13 season, and further elevated his game by registering 62 goals in the 2022-2023 season before signing for Chelsea.
In the current season, he has mustered 14 goal involvements in eleven outings for Chelsea youth team.
The Nigeria Football Federation have recruited players born or brought up overseas for the national teams - the likes of Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Jordan Torunarigha, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Tom Dele-Bashiru, Ifeoma Onumonu and Ashleigh Plumptre.
Born September 2008, Ezenwata becomes eligible to sign a scholarship deal at Chelsea for the 2025-2026 season.
