Nottingham Forest's Super Eagles fullback Aina scores against the best goalkeeper in the world
Published: November 05, 2023
Nottingham Forest fullback Ola Aina scored against Emiliano Martínez who was the recipient of the Yashin trophy at the 2023 Ballon d'Or Gala when Forest defeated Aston Villa in matchday 11 of the Premier League on Sunday afternoon at the City Ground.
The 27-year-old opened the scoring for the home side five minutes into the game with a scorching shot from outside the penalty area.
The Cobham product's strike proved to be the only difference between the two sides at the end of the first half.
Orel Mangala scored the second goal for Forest courtesy of a howler from Martínez, two minutes after the start of the second half.
Aina started the game at right back in Steve Cooper's 4-3-3 formation and played a vital role in ensuring the two-time European champions picked their first win since September.
He made 4 clearances, won six ground duels, got dribbled past twice, had 44 touches of the ball, lost possession 9 times and completed 70% of his passes.
Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi also started his first game since his return from injury which will be good news for Nigeria ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualification matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
