Two-goal hero Akpom matches feat of ex-Ajax stars Davinson Sanchez, Oleguer, Julien Escude, Heitinga

After suffering five consecutive defeats in the Dutch Eredivisie, Ajax Amsterdam made it two wins in the space of three days on Sunday as they thrashed SC Heerenveen 4-1 at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
With the score at 2-1, Super Eagles hopeful Chuba Akpom came off the bench in the 73rd minute to inspire the Amsterdam club to a big win.
The Arsenal academy product opened his Ajax account with a headed goal in their 2-0 win over FC Volendam in a rescheduled game played on Thursday.
Against SC Heerenveen, Akpom headed the 36-time Dutch champions into a bigger lead with five minutes left on the clock and in doing so, matched the feat of former Ajax Amsterdam stars Davinson Sánchez, Oleguer, Julien Escudé and John Heitinga.
This century, the PFA Championship Players' Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 campaign is the fifth Ajax player whose first two Eredivisie goals for the club were both headers, according to the statisticians at OPTA.
Akpom wrapped up the scoring in the second minute of stoppage time with a left-footed finish from close range.
There had been doubts about the pedigree of Akpom in his first two months as an Ajax player but the 28-year-old has shown that he is nearing his best level again with three goals in twenty seven minutes.
Not since April 2023 during his Middlesbrough days had he scored in two consecutive matches.
