Tottenham, Newcastle join Barcelona in race for Super Eagles midfielder; Brentford, Aston Villa also keen
Published: November 06, 2023
Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have joined Barcelona in the race to sign Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.
According to TEAMtalk, the Premier League duo are interested in acquiring the signature of the Nigeria international while Aston Villa and Brentford are also keeping an eye on him ahead of the January transfer window.
Although he is plying his trade in the Championship this season, the Nigeria international is an experienced Premier League campaigner, having featured in 192 games for Leicester City before their relegation last term.
Ndidi is running into the final months of his contract with Leicester City and can agree on a pre-contract agreement with a European club in January.
The Foxes are trying to lock he 26-year-old down with a new contract but have not been able to make a breakthrough yet and would be hoping he signs a new deal before the end of the season.
He has been one of the vital players for the club this season as they seek to stage an immediate return to the Premier League, mustering seven-goal involvements in 15 appearances.
Atletico Madrid, Lyon and Monaco are the European clubs linked with a move for Ndidi, who is currently sidelined by a muscle injury and is set to miss out on the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
