Leicester City boss Maresca gives return date for Super Eagles midfielder Ndidi
Published: November 10, 2023
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca faced the cameras on Friday morning to preview his side's EFL Championship clash against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium and one topic he touched on was the injury situation.
The Nigeria Football Federation, on Thursday night, announced the roster for the Super Eagles' upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, with four key players Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Wlfred Ndidi and Zaidu Sanusi not called up.
Ndidi had a scan before Leicester City's home game against Sunderland and was advised by the Foxes medical team to rest until a proper and detailed investigation was carried out.
Subsequent tests revealed that the central midfielder was suffering from a muscular injury, which was worse than what was first reported.
Maresca has offered a timescale on Ndidi's recovery, saying the former Genk ace would likely make his comeback from injury after the upcoming international break.
In quotes relayed by Leicester City's official website, the Italian tactician stated: "[Ndidi and Yunus] are still out. Hopefully we can have both after the international break.
"Dennis is joining us for part of the session already, so hopefully he can have him after the break. Callum is still out and that’s all."
Ndidi was in top form prior to his spell on the sidelines, registering three goals and four assists in 15 matches across all competitions.
