Arthur Okonkwo: Arsenal-owned goalkeeper on Nigeria's radar keeps back-to-back clean sheets for Wrexham
Published: November 11, 2023
Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo kept another clean sheet for Wrexham in their 2-0 win over Gillingham on matchday 17 of the Football League Two played at Racecourse Ground on Saturday afternoon.
The Hale End Academy graduate is confirmed to be on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of a possible call-up to the Super Eagles.
Wrexham took the lead within 58 seconds of the start of the game through Ollie Palmer's right-footed shot from six yards out to record the club's quickest goal of the season.
The Red Dragon couldn't find another goal until the 71st minute when Ben Tozer fired the ball into the back of the net with a beautiful volley after a cross from Jacob Mendy.
Despite Gillingham's attacking threat, it was a comfortable afternoon for Okonkwo who was forced to make only two saves all game.
The 22-year-old has now kept back-to-back clean sheets for Wrexham for the second time this season, bringing his total clean sheets to 21 in 54 games combined for Wrexham, Crewe Alexandra and Sturm Graz.
Okonkwo has been on the books of the Gunners since the age of eight and his contract with the north London club runs out at the end of the season.
