'In all honesty' - Warri-born ex-Man City defender backs referee's decision to book Man Utd coach
Published: November 12, 2023
Warri-born former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha reckons that referee Graham Scott made the right call to show a yellow card to manager Erik ten Hag during the Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Luton Town on Saturday.
The Dutch football tactician has been booked three times in the current season and will serve a one-game ban after the international break.
Ten Hag was earlier booked in Manchester United's defeat to north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
He was yellow carded for complaining over the awarding of a throw-in against his side and will be in the stands in United's next game against Everton at Goodison Park on November 26.
After a drama-filled loss to FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League, the Red Devils returned to winning ways thanks to Victor Lindelof's goal in the 59th minute.
"I think Erik ten Hag was remonstrating there for a possible foul on Harry Maguire, but in all honesty it seemed like the correct call. He has now been booked for dissent," Onuoha said on Final Score.
"Squeaky bum time at home to Luton, not what many people will have been expecting from today."
Three players of Nigerian descent were on parade at Old Trafford with former Golden Eaglets invitee Gabriel Osho and Lagos-born Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene starting for the Hatters while Elijah Adebayo was thrown into the fray in the 86th minute.
