18 seconds: Nigerian striker scores fastest goal conceded by Barcelona in a home league match in 21st century
Published: November 12, 2023
Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion etched his name into the history books after opening the scoring for Deportivo Alavés in their 2-1 loss to Barcelona in a La Liga match held at the Olímpic Lluís Companys on Sunday evening.
It took only eighteen seconds for Omorodion to break the deadlock, the Atlético Madrid loanee finished off a quick transition after former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was robbed of possession.
According to OPTA, the goal netted by Omorodion is the fastest goal conceded by Barcelona in a home league match in the 21st century.
It is also the fastest goal scored by Deportivo Alavés in the history of the domestic championship.
Omorodion has now scored three goals in a Deportivo Alavés shirt since his arrival on loan at the Basque Country club in August 2023.
Including his strike on the opening day of the season against his parent club Atlético Madrid, the talented teenager has mustered four goals in twelve La Liga games, five of which he started.
Omorodion missed a couple of chances to score a crucial second goal for the visitors including hitting the side-netting in the ninth minute with a powerful shot, his 13th minute effort was wide of the target and he struck the woodwork in the 31st minute.
Those misses proved costly as Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the second half to secure a win for Barcelona.
