'I had Chelsea and Manchester United jerseys' - Osimhen on the PL team he supported growing up
Published: November 13, 2023
Victor Osimhen has revealed that he supported no Premier League club growing up but wore the jerseys of Manchester United and Chelsea during his childhood.
The Napoli star has been heavily linked with a move to the English top topflight in the past couple of months, with Manchester United and Chelsea mentioned as possible destinations.
Despite adding Nicolas Jackson to their ranks in the summer, the Blues are still said to be in pursuit of a proven striker and are considering the possibility of signing him having been priced out of a move for him in the summer.
In the same vein, the Red Devils want to acquire the services of a senior striker to ease the burden on summer arrival Rasmus Højlund and as a result, the 24-year-old is reportedly on their shortlist.
Answering the question of which league he enjoyed the most and the Premier League club he supported growing up, Osimhen revealed that he enjoyed watching the Premier League but was not a fan of any of the English clubs.
"I don't have a team in the Premier League, but I had two jerseys that I took from my brother because I played grassroots football, had one with Chelsea, one with Manchester United, the one with Vodafone," Osimhen said on The Obi One Podcast.
"I have got a lot of friends who are Chelsea fans, few of them are Manchester United fans but in Nigeria, everyone watches the Premier League the most.
"It is something we enjoy watching every time, we watch La Liga and Serie A too, but the Premier League is a unique one for every African country. The taste is very high there, it is something we really enjoy in Africa."
The Super Eagles forward could play in the English top-tier division in no distant future as he is yet to commit his long-term future to Napoli.
