Chelsea's search for a marquee striker: Super Eagles star open to a move to the Blues
Published: November 14, 2023
Chelsea have reportedly received a positive response from Victor Osimhen regarding a move to the London club.
The Nigeria international will enter the last year of his contract with Napoli at the end of the current season and the Italian champions are keen to tie him down to a new deal but negotiations have not yet resulted in an agreement between club and player.
Chelsea are in the market for a marquee striker due to Nicolas Jackson's inconsistent form in the first two months of the season and the limited impact of Armando Broja since the Albanian recovered from injury.
According to The Evening Standard, Osimhen is open to a move to Chelsea, but the Blues may have to wait until next summer to prise him away from Napoli.
A departure from the Parthenopeans in the January transfer window is almost impossible as Napoli are still competing on three fronts and the striker is in contention to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Ballon d'Or, Best FIFA Men's Player and African Player of the Year nominee won't come cheap given that he is widely regarded as the best center forward in the world at the moment, with the exclusion of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.
The Evening Standard has suggested that Napoli will demand a fee of more than 100 million pounds for Osimhen.
The 24-year-old has mustered 65 goals in 111 all-competition appearances since joining Napoli from Lille in 2020 and won the Serie A Golden Boot for the 2022-2023 season.
