Midfielder with exceptional technical skills signs new deal with Chelsea
Published: November 21, 2023
England underage international Kiano Dyer has taken to social media to announce that he has signed a new deal with Premier League giants Chelsea.
As per Premier League rules, all players in their U17 year are required to start the season on a scholarship agreement, before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.
Dyer, who is celebrating his 17th birthday today, November 21, has confirmed that he has signed his first professional contract at Chelsea.
The talented teenager began the 2023-2024 season as a first-year scholar, along with left-sided central defender of Nigerian descent Saheed Olagunju and six other youngsters.
"Pleased to have signed my first pro contract, proud moment for me and my family," Dyer wrote on Instagram.
Dyer has been described by Chelsea's official website as 'a bright and intelligent footballer who demonstrates versatility across various positions in midfield, as well as exceptional technical skills".
He was seemingly in contention to be named in England's squad for the ongoing Fifa U17 World Cup but an injury dashed his hopes of representing the Young Lions in Indonesia.
Dyer totaled seven appearances for Chelsea's development squad and played in four games in the UEFA Youth League before turning pro, which is a testament to his ability.
He has cited Xavi and Iniesta as his role models and has played nonstop at Chelsea since the end of his U14 season after he was poached from West Brom.
