Lecce sporting director confirms Liverpool and Barcelona target Dorgu won't leave in January
Published: November 22, 2023
Lecce's sporting director Stefano Trinchera has confirmed that Denmark U21 international of Nigerian descent, Patrick Dorgu is attracting plenty of interest from top European clubs but stressed that the talented left-back will be staying put at the Giallorossi until at least the end of the 2023-2024 season.
Dorgu's Nigerian agent Kingsley Ogbodo recently confirmed that the defender is a player of interest to Premier League duo Liverpool and Manchester City, plus La Liga giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
The 19-year-old has seen his stock rise on the back of a brilliant season a Lecce following his promotion to the first team.
And he could be at the center of an international tug-of-war for his services between Nigeria and Denmark in the near future with both Federations keeping tabs on him with a view to a call-up to the senior squad.
There has been a lot of interest in Dorgu abroad, but he is not going anywhere for the time being.
"Patrick Dorgu creates publicity, and over time the price of him will only increase," Stefano Trinchera said to PianetaLecce, via Bold.dk.
"In January, he will stay with us. It is too early to make decisions about the future, but Dorgu is on the list of many of the big European clubs.
"I am not going to talk about the price of a kid who is growing day by day."
Dorgu has been involved in every single game contested by Lecce so far this season, fourteen in total.
The fullback went the distance as Denmark beat Wales 2-1 in a European U21 Championship qualifier on Monday, November 20.
