'Nnadozie has no idea where she's in goal' - Ex-Arsenal CB reacts to Kerr's spectacular lob in Chelsea's win v Paris
Published: November 24, 2023
French Division 1 Féminine club Paris FC are winless after two matchdays in the UEFA Women's Champions League after suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
From a Nigerian perspective, all eyes were on goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, one of the heroines for the Super Falcons in their credible performance at the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup but she came short on this occasion, having conceded four goals.
Australia international Sam Kerr was the star of the show, scoring an impressive hat-trick to inspire The Blues to their first win in Group D of the Champions League.
The pick of her goals was her third in the 55th minute when she raced on to a long pass, took a couple of touches before lofting an effort from outside the box spectacularly over the head of the backpedalling Nnadozie
Former Arsenal and Chelsea central defender Gilly Flaherty, who was on punditry duties for BBC Radio 5 Live, partially blamed Nnadozie for Kerr's strike, noting that the Paris FC goalkeeper ventured out of her safety zone.
"There's nothing wrong with direct football. People argue that it isn't pretty but one direct ball from Berger to Kerr has just given Chelsea cushion in this game," Flaherty stated.
"Nnadozie has no idea where she is in goal to save it, and you've got a player like Kerr up front who has been there and done it, and just lifts the ball into the net."
Chelsea are second in Group D of the Champions League with four points from two matches, two less than surprise package BK Hacken who have a one hundred percent record.
