'He's very straightforward' - Experienced CB Balogun pinpoints one key attribute of Rangers' new manager
Published: November 25, 2023
Experienced Super Eagles central defender Leon Balogun has pinpointed one key attribute of Rangers' new manager Philippe Clement, saying the Belgian football tactician is straightforward.
The former Werder Bremen and Brighton & Hove man was the player selected to be on media duties at Friday's pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Aberdeen, a strong indication that he is going to be involved in some capacity on Sunday afternoon in the early kickoff in the Scottish Premiership.
In a move very few people saw coming, Balogun has forced his way into Rangers' starting lineup since the appointment of Clement, having started each of their last three games in all competitions prior to the international break.
Given that he was a bit-part player under dismissed coach Michael Beale with only two appearances to his name, Clement clearly rates him highly.
Balogun has spoken of the impact of Rangers' new manager and he's delighted to be back in the fold after his limited game time in the first twelve weeks of the season.
"I think his ways, he is very straightforward when you speak to him, he has this manner about him where you know he is just very clear," Balogun was quoted as saying by Rangers' official website.
"He just wants to make sure that we get every single detail. Obviously one thing that always happens if a new manager comes in the door is that everybody is trying to present themselves from the best side.
"That will factor in, but mainly it is down to the way he works which is really focused on details. He is just really into the details and that helps. The door is always open but again he is very clear as well and demanding."
The 35-year-old continued: "I was needed, I also needed games. I am happy that I could take my chance there. For me it just helps that he is very clear.
"I am one of the older guys so obviously I have a bit of experience as well. For me it was just taking the messages on board just like any other player and then producing."
Balogun returned for a second spell at Rangers in July 2023, with the defender signing a one-year deal until the end of the season.
