2021 Super Eagles invitee Olise joins Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd stars in BBC's PL Team of the Week
Published: November 27, 2023
2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise has been named in the latest BBC's Premier League Team of the Week following his impressive display during Crystal Palace's 2-1 loss to Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday, November 25.
In what was his first start of the season after recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered while on international duty with France at the 2023 European U21 Championship, Olise netted Palace's 600th goal in the Premier League.
After Teden Mengi converted a corner to open the scoring in the 72nd minute, the Crystal Palace number 7 restored parity in the 74th minute when he unleashed a curling effort into the top corner.
Olise's delightful goal was enough to earn him a place in midfield in BBC football pundit Garth Crooks' Team of the Week.
Eight different teams have contributed players to the Team of the Week, namely Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove and Manchester United.
Ederson is protected by a back three of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jamaal Lascelles and Nathan Ake.
Joining Olise in a four-man midfield are Declan Rice, Mohammed Kudus and Anthony Gordon, while the forwards are Alejandro Garnacho, Joao Pedro and Erling Haaland.
On Olise, Crooks wrote: "I'm not entirely sure how Luton won this match against Crystal Palace. Losing Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze so early in the game clearly had something to do with Palace's defeat.
"However, they have a player in Michael Olise who is clearly going to be as important to Crystal Palace as Wilfried Zaha was during his time at the club but hopefully without the attitude.
"His 74th-minute equaliser was sensational and should have been enough to secure the Eagles a point."
Luca Koleosho (Burnley), Elijah Adebayo and Gabriel Osho (Luton), Lesley Ugochukwu (Chelsea), Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest), William Osula (Sheffield United), Frank Onyeka (Brentford), Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth) and Destiny Udogie (Tottenham) who played for their respective clubs at the weekend missed out on the BBC Team of the Week.
