Ex-Leicester midfielder names three players including Osimhen he would like Arsenal to target
Published: November 28, 2023
Former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Salvage has named Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Ivan Toney as the players Arsenal must buy if they are to win the Premier League.
The London-based side came close to winning the Premier League last season for the first time in 19 years but eventually fell short and lost the title to Manchester City in the closing stages of the campaign.
They sit atop the table at the moment but Savage believes Arsenal need to sign one of Osimhen, Vlahovic or Toney in January if they are to end their long wait for the league title.
While speaking in an interview with TEAMtalk, Salvage said neither Gabriel Jesus nor Eddie Nketiah are good enough to lead Mikel Arteta's side to Premier League glory and must sign one of the aforementioned stars.
"I do think Arsenal have two very good centre forwards in Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, but I just think a new striker to add to that competition, and one who can get a guaranteed 20 to 25 goals a season, would make all the difference to them," Salvage said.
"From the Premier League, you're looking at Ivan Toney from Brentford, and beyond that, Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus and Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
"Arsenal need to be looking at the three of them and saying 'do you know what, if we add one of those to our team, they can add another 20 goals-plus to our side over a season'. It could make all the difference....
"Those three, I think, can do that [for Arsenal]. Toney's proven he can do that for Brentford and is a low-risk signing for me as he can already do it in the Premier League.
"Vlahovic and Osimhen, they're two other proven options – what a player Osimhen is, by the way (!) – and if I were at Arsenal in charge of their transfers, those are the three names I'd be giving to the board."
Arsenal might need to eclipse the transfer fee paid to West Ham for the signing of Declan Rice in the summer if they are to sign Osimhen.
The Gunners will also face stiff competition from London neighbors, Chelsea for the signature of the 24-year-old.
The Napoli striker has 6 goals in the Serie A this season, same number Nketiah and Jesus have scored between them in the Premier League.
