'He will change a lot of things for Chelsea' - Gianfranco Zola reveals Osimhen is tailor-made for PL
Published: December 04, 2023
Former Napoli and Chelsea striker Gianfranco Zola reckons that Victor Osimhen is ready to make a move to the Premier League.
The Nigeria national teamer has been heavily linked with a departure from reigning Italian champions Napoli next summer, with Chelsea rumored to be in the driving seat for his signature.
Osimhen earned himself a big-money move to Napoli after finishing with 18 goals in 38 appearances for Lille and his form since he arrived in Italy has also been spectacular, with 65 goals in 114 matches, an average of a goal every 126 minutes.
Napoli want to extend Osimhen's contract and have offered him a record-breaking salary to prolong his stay, the biggest in the history of the club, but nothing has been agreed as of now.
Chelsea are aiming to bolster their striking resources with the addition of a marquee center forward, and Zola believes Osimhen has all the qualities needed to thrive at the Blues.
Zola highlighted the qualities that make the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner a genuine number 9.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Zola said: "I rate him as one of the top strikers around at the moment, for his energy, for his ability to score and also play with the opposition. I'm sure he can be a success in the Premier League as well for sure.
"Of course the way, you know for what I see with Chelsea I think a player with this quality will do very well.
"He will change a lot of things for Chelsea to the positive in my opinion but again as I said I truly believe that it was a right thing to stay again one more year with Napoli.
"He has done extremely well but what is more important is to confirm what you've done the previous year.
"After you've done so well you are tested mentally and with a character, you need to confirm and do even better. I think it will be a good test for him."
Osimhen is the first Nigerian and African to win the Paolo Rossi Award which is awarded by the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) to the highest goalscorer of each season in Italy's Serie A.
