Confirmed team news: Chelsea's Nigeria-eligible trio will not make injury return against Sheffield United
Published: December 15, 2023
Through their official website, Chelsea have provided a detailed injury update ahead of their Premier League meeting with Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have as many as ten first teamers in the treatment room including Super Eagles-eligible trio Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu, leaving manager Mauricio Pochettino with limited options for the visit of the Blades.
Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia.also have injury issues and did not train fully with the squad ahead of the matchday 17 clash.
Midfielders Ugochukwu and Chukwuemeka are continuing to undergo their rehabilitation programme and will not make their return from injury against Sheffield United.
While Ugochukwu is recovering from a muscle tear injury that has seen him miss the last three games, ex-Aston Villa kid Chukwuemeka suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury that has kept him sidelined since August 20.
The England youth international did make the bench versus Burnley in October, only for him to suffer a relapse.
As for Madueke, the winger is progressing with the reconditioning phase of his rehabilitation.
The England U21 international has struggled for minutes since his arrival at Chelsea from PSV in the January transfer window, having started only nine games in all competitions from a possible 42.
