'A player that I recruited for Chelsea'- Emenalo admits Salah's arrival in Saudi PL depends on Liverpool
Published: December 17, 2023
Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah remains a player of interest to the Saudi Pro League, the director of the league and retired Nigeria international Michael Emenalo has confirmed.
The Saudi Pro League will try again to sign the Egypt captain after Al-Ittihad failed to reach an agreement with Liverpool in their attempts to sign the winger in the summer of 2023.
Negotiations for the signature of Salah would be easier at the end of the current season as he would have one year left on his contract at Liverpool.
The Saudi Pro League has become a key player in the transfer market, attracting several prominent African stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Franck Kessié, Edouard Mendy, Sadio Mané, Seko Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window.
Former Chelsea technical director Emenalo has a good relationship with Salah, having brokered the deal that brought him to Stamford Bridge in January 2014.
Asked if he's ruling out a January move for Salah, Emenalo said to Sky Sports: "We respect Liverpool and in this scenario, the initiative to do anything won't come from us. There has to be an aligned interest from all parties involved.
"It's a very personal thing, as a player that I recruited [for Chelsea] and I like. There's nothing I'm saying that is new or ground-breaking - that a player of this level of talent is available and your league wants him.
"If Mo Salah is available, has an interest to come and everything is aligned, I would be incredibly delighted."
Signed from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has scored 200 goals in 327 appearances for Liverpool while registering 87 assists.
