Nwaneri promoted to Arsenal first team training ahead of PL clash against Liverpool
Published: December 21, 2023
Arsenal have stepped up preparations for their festive fixtures that would see them play three Premier League matches in the space of eight days, starting with Saturday's blockbuster clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta put the first team players through their paces in Wednesday's workout held at London Colney.
The Spanish football tactician promoted England U17 international of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri and some other outstanding academy players to first team training yesterday.
Also in attendance were Bradley Ibrahim, Reuell Walters, James Hillson and Lino Sousa.
Nwaneri has trained with Arsenal's first team on multiple occasions since his return from Young Lions duty at the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup in Indonesia.
The 16-year-old received back-to-back call-ups for UEFA Champions League matches against Lens and PSV Eindhoven but was a non-playing substitute in both games.
The highlight of his performance this season was netting five goals in Arsenal's 7-1 win over Crewe Alexandra in the FA Youth Cup on December 9, and he provided the game-winning assist in his most recent outing for the development squad, helping them come from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1 in the Premier League 2.
Since his history-making debut against Brentford in September 2022, Nwaneri has yet to make a competitive appearance for Arsenal's first team.
