'Here we go' - Fabrizio Romano gives major update on future of Arsenal and Chelsea target Osimhen
Published: December 22, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Arsenal and Chelsea target Victor Osimhen extending his contract at Napoli is a done deal as the Nigeria international has accepted the terms of the offer from the Parthenopeans.
Osimhen will put pen to paper for one more season at Napoli, a deal that would keep him at the Diego Maradona Stadium until June 30, 2026 if both parties honor the agreement.
The 24-year-old signing a new deal does not necessarily mean that he is off the market but it will help Napoli to have a strong position on his future as the expectation is that he has very good chances of parting company with the Serie A champions in the summer of 2024.
The idea is for Osimhen to stay at Napoli in January and probably leave next summer because the new contract has a release clause of 130-140m euros.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner is a player of interest to Arsenal while Chelsea have identified him as a priority signing in their search for a proven goalscorer.
Speaking on his YouTube page, Romano stated: "Here we go for a new contract of Victor Osimhen at Napoli is done because Osimhen said yes. I told you already days ago but now everything is in place. Also the documents set to be signed shortly."
He added: "It's (release clause) going to be in the region of 130-140m euros. This clause means that he will have an exit strategy for the summer.
"He's not expected to leave in January, only something completely crazy but Napoli are saying that Victor Osimhen is not leaving in January.
"The interest from Chelsea and Arsenal remains, let's see if other clubs will join the race too but for sure Osimhen is going to sign a new deal with Napoli to prepare the future in a different way."
Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in 2020 and has gone on to score 67 goals in 118 appearances since making his debut against Parma.
