16yo Anglo-Nigerian midfielder involved in Arsenal's final training session before trip to Liverpool
Published: December 23, 2023
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta observed 16-year-old Anglo-Nigerian midfielder Ethan Nwaneri at close quarters on Friday, on the eve of his side's highly anticipated Premier League match against Liverpool.
Nwaneri was among the standout academy players that trained with the first team in their final workout before the trip to Anfield.
Also spotted during the training session at London Colney were James Hillson, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Khayon Edwards, Ismail Oulad M’Hand and Harrison Dudziak.
It remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will have a space for an academy player for the matchday 18 fixture at Anfield.
The Spanish football tactician will not be able to call upon the services of Jurrien Timber, Fabio Vieira, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Thomas Partey for the trip to Merseyside due to injuries.
Midfielders Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny are rated as doubtful though the Egyptian was involved in contact training on Friday after limping off against PSV Eindhoven last week.
Nwaneri has not been included in a Premier League matchday squad since his historic debut against Brentford on September 18, 2022 when he became the youngest player to feature in the English top-flight aged 15 years and 181 days.
