'He can do everything' - Fulham CB Bassey admits the PL would suit Chelsea, Arsenal target Osimhen
Published: December 23, 2023
Fulham central defender Calvin Bassey has revealed that the Premier League would suit Victor Osimhen's style of play amid speculation linking the Napoli superstar with a move to England.
Napoli announced on Saturday that the 2023 African Footballer of the Year has finally reached an agreement to extend his stay at the Diego Maradona Stadium, signing a contract extension until the summer of 2026, one more season than he originally agreed when he joined the club in 2020.
Despite signing a new lucrative deal, making him the highest paid player in the history of Napoli, speculation about the future of the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner has not ended.
In search of a marquee striker to bolster their attack, Chelsea have identified Osimhen as a priority signing and the Nigerian goal poacher is also admired by the Blues' London rivals Arsenal but a transfer is unlikely to happen in the January window.
Bassey has highlighted the qualities that make him believe that his international teammate, Osimhen is one of the best strikers in Europe and tailor-made for the Premier League.
"He is a joke — the only striker I know who can run a back line by himself," Bassey said to The Athletic UK.
“He can run in behind, he can head, finish, he can do everything. The Prem would suit him. Hopefully, he comes at some point but I’d rather have him in my team than against him!”
Osimhen has scored 20 goals in 27 outings for the Nigerian national team and expected to be a key player as the Super Eagles attempt to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2013.
