Manchester United ahead of Newcastle, AC Milan in race for Dutch-Nigerian striker
Published: December 28, 2023
Manchester United are leading Newcastle and AC Milan in the race to sign Dutch-Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee.
As reported by Calciomercato via Teamtalk, the English giants are in front of the queue of clubs wanting to sign the striker as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
The report further added that the €40 million release clause in the 22-year-old's contract can only be triggered by Bayern Munich, citing a statement made by Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio in an interview he granted to Gazzetta dello Sport as proof.
This means Manchester United might have to cough out more than €40million if they are to get the signature of the in-form forward in January.
The Red Devils are expected to make signings when the transfer window opens next month due to the arrival of Jim Ratcliffe who has just purchased a 25% stake in the ownership of the club.
He will be in charge of football operations including transfers and is expected to make funds available for the purchase of players like Zirkzee and other prospective targets.
The former Bavarian forward has 8 goals across all competitions this term which is more than that of any Manchester United player.
