PL Hall of Famer admits Crystal Palace 'would be fighting tooth and nail' to keep fantastic player Olise
Published: December 31, 2023
English Premier League Hall of Famer and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel reckons that Crystal Palace 'would be fighting tooth and nail' to retain the services of 2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise beyond the end of the current season.
Olise has been in sensational form since coming back from an injury that kept him sidelined for more than four months, having registered six goal involvements in his last eight outings in the Premier League.
The Cobham product was heavily linked with a return to Chelsea in the summer but ended speculation about his future for the time being by signing a new multi-year contract in August.
Despite his brilliant form since his return from injury, Crystal Palace have struggled in the Premier League, winning only one out of a possible nine games.
Olise netted his first career brace in the Premier League to inspire Crystal Palace to a 3-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.
Schmeichel underlined that the Eagles stand a good chance of survival if Olise is in tiptop condition.
"If you can keep a player like that fit, nine games, five goals, that's an incredible stat if you can keep that up. And a team like Crystal Palace they have been struggling and he's back and he's scoring," the retired Denmark international said on Premier League Productions.
"He's a fantastic player, I think they would be fighting tooth and nail to keep him because with a player like that their chances of staying in the Premier League increase."
Thank to their victory over the Bees, Crystal Palace are thirteenth in the table with 21 points from twenty games.
