'One of the hottest strikers right now' - Pundit reacts to Arsenal's links with Victor Boniface

Speaking on AFTV's Transfer Daily, Arsenal expert Robbie Lyle reckons that it would be difficult for Arsenal to pull off a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface in the January transfer window.

Arsenal have been blunt in attack in recent weeks, having netted just four goals in their last five matches in the Premier League and could do with the signing of an attacker to strengthen the team.

All of a sudden, Arsenal find themselves in fourth place with north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur breathing down their back, because they are not scoring enough goals.

In terms of goals scored, forward players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have been off form.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of strikers such as Brentford's Ivan Toney and two Nigeria-eligible players in the shape of Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke and Victor Boniface.

It's hard to get big deals done in January because teams don't want to let their players go when they are either competing for titles or battling to avoid relegation, coupled with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Lyle has underlined that it would make no sense for Bayer Leverkusen to sell their leading scorer this month.

"Victor Boniface is another player being heavily linked with Arsenal, again another player that has been ripping it up this season for Bayer Leverkusen over there in the Bundesliga," he said on AFTV.

"Only 23 years of age, the Nigeria international. 16 goals he has scored in all competitions this season, as I said one of the hottest strikers right now in European football.

"But once again will Bayer sell Victor Boniface in January? They are top of the league over there in the Bundesliga, being hunted down by Bayern Munich. "

Boniface is set to report for Super Eagles duty this week in the United Arab Emirates as the national team begin their final preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
