'Arsenal need a top player in that position' - Romano reacts to reports linking Gunners with Solanke
Published: January 02, 2024
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given an update regarding the future of Anglo-Nigerian striker Dominic Solanke who has been linked to Arsenal and Tottenham.
The former England youth international has been in stellar form in recent weeks and has played no small role in helping Bournemouth turn their season around after their early struggles.
He is undoubtedly one of the most in-form players in the Premier League, having scored 8 goals in the past eight games, and that has propelled him to the second position in the top scorers' chart with twelve goals.
His form has attracted the interest of Arsenal and Tottenham with both north London clubs in need of a forward to bolster their attacks.
Romano while speaking on the Gunners' interest in the Super Eagles-eligible striker revealed that there is nothing concrete regarding the move so far.
"Some Arsenal fans are also asking me about Dominic Solanke after his fine form. I have no update on his future so far, it's still quiet," Romano told Caughtoffside.
"He's doing great so he could be one to watch, but at the moment I don't have any concrete updates to speak of.
"Personally, I really like Solanke but I also think Arsenal need a top, top player in that position should they invest on striker and it's not easy in January."
Solanke had previously failed to excel at Liverpool and Chelsea and it remains to be seen whether he is ready to play at a consistent level for a top side.
The 26-year-old contract with Bournemouth expires in the summer of 2027 which means it would take a substantial fee to lure him away from the Vitality Stadium.
