George battles Enzo Fernandez, Palmer, Lauren James, Mudryk, 2 others for Chelsea Goal of the Month
Published: January 02, 2024
Talented Nigeria-eligible winger Tyrique George has been shortlisted for Chelsea's Goal of the Month award for December 2023.
The England U18 international of Nigerian descent has been nominated for his brilliant effort for Chelsea's development squad in a 2-1 win over Luton Town U21s in the Premier League Cup.
In the 74th minute, George doubled the away side with a thunderous effort from outside the penalty area which could only be prevented by exceptional goalkeeping.
The stunning strike secured his spot on the eight-goal shortlist, which also includes efforts from Enzo Fernandez, Harrison McMahon, Lauren James, Erin Cuthbert, Mykhailo Mudryk and Cole Palmer, who has been double nominated for his goals against Sheffield United and Luton.
George has been one of the standout players for Chelsea's youth teams in the 2023-2024 campaign with ten goals in all competitions so far this season.
A breakdown of his goals reveals that four were scored in the U18 Premier League, four in the U21 Premier League Cup and one each in the U18 Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup.
George was nominated for Chelsea's Goal of the Month for October and November but missed out on the awards to Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling respectively.
He was promoted to first team training by Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino during the international break in November on the back of his excellent form for the youth teams.
