Nigeria-eligible midfielder nominated for Arsenal Goal of the Month for third time this season
Published: January 04, 2024
England U17 international of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri netted five goals, albeit in one game, for Arsenal youth teams in December 2023.
Through their official website, Arsenal have revealed the shortlist for the club's Goal of the Month award for December, with the Anglo-Nigerian attacking midfielder among the contenders.
The first-year scholar, who is set to sign his first professional contract in two months time, was the star of the show as the Gunners came from behind to beat Crewe Alexandra 7-1 in the FA Youth Cup.
His fifth goal of an incredible performance against Crewe Alexandra has been included on the shortlist.
Nwaneri got his fifth of the game in the 75th minute when he placed a left footed finish into the bottom corner after a move he started from his own half.
The 16-year-old is up against five other players for November's prize, including Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Alessia Russo, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Stina Blackstenius.
This is the third time this season that Nwaneri has been shortlisted for the Goal of the Month, after he was nominated for the August and September prizes.
Last season, he was nominated for the Goal of the Month award for November and December 2022, plus February and April 2023.
