Nigerian striker in critical condition after crashing his car into a tree in Belgium

Nigeria-eligible attacker Dapo Mebude is in critical condition after crashing his car into a tree in northwestern Belgium.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, the accident took place on Sunday morning shortly before 900 hours on the E40 exit in Loppem, in the direction of Brussels.
As per the report, Mebude was freed by the fire brigade and was taken to the AZ Sint-Jan in Bruges, where he was urgently operated on and he is in mortal danger.
In September 2022., Mebude, a product of the Rangers academy, ended his association with Watford with a transfer to Challenger Pro League club KV Oostende.
KV Oostende has canceled Sunday's friendly against Knokke which was scheduled to kick off at 1100 hours due to Mebude's car accident, the club confirmed on social media.
The prosecutor's office informed that no other cars were involved in the accident and a traffic expert has been appointed to investigate the precise circumstances of the accident.
Mebude was one of the six Watford players former Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick held talks with in July 2021 when he visited the Watford training ground during their pre-season preparations.
The 22-year-old is provisionally cap-tied to Scotland and had considered switching his international allegiance to Nigeria.
Since his arrival at KV Oostende, he has totaled eight appearances in all competitions including five games in the Jupiler Pro League.
