'I had the chance to join them' - Davies reveals he chose Man City over Chelsea before move to Arsenal
Published: February 17, 2024
Promising Anglo-Nigerian forward Henry Timi Davies has revealed that he passed up the opportunity to join Chelsea in favour of making a move to Manchester City.
After spending two and a half years at Manchester City without making his competitive debut for the U18s, Davies was not offered a scholarship deal by the Citizens and joined Arsenal in 2021 following a successful trial.
Unfortunately, injuries have not been kind to Davies since landing at the Gunners, limiting his appearances to just two in the U18 Premier League and none in the Premier League 2.
Born in Hackney, London, the 19-year-old signed his first professional contract with Arsenal shortly after his seventeenth birthday in December 2021.
He started playing football at the age of ten and spent the formative years of his career with Foots Cray Lions, Kent League club Glebe FC and his school team Bishop Justus.
Davies caught the attention of Manchester City scouts while he was playing in a cup final for Glebe.
Speaking to the Arsenal matchday programme, Davies said: "They approached my mother and offered me a trial in the summer of 2018. Just before that, I went on trial at Chelsea and I had the chance to join them.
"But, when it came down to choosing, I opted for Man City, as I was excited by the prospect of starting fresh in a new city with new opportunities."
Davies, who can also be deployed at wingback, made his unofficial debut for Arsenal development squad against Bromley and was invited to train with the first team before his spell on the sidelines.
