Shola Shoretire: Turkish Super Lig giants interested in signing history-making Manchester United forward
Published: February 20, 2024Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray have started planning for life without experienced winger Dries Mertens who is considering calling time on his career at the end of the season.
According to the online edition of Turkish sports channel A Spor, Galatasaray's management has already started working on the transfers it will make in the summer transfer window, with young players with potential on the list of targets.
The scouting team of Galatasaray has recommended that Mertens should be replaced by versatile Manchester United forward Shola Shoretire,
When Shoretire made his Europa League debut against Real Sociedad on February 25, 2021, he set a new record as the youngest ever player to represent Manchester United in a European match at the age of 17 years and 23 days, beating the previous record held by the legendary Norman Whiteside.
It is claimed that manager of the Lions, Okan Buruk has given his green light to the transfer of the Manchester United Academy product with a loan move being mooted.
The 20-year-old has found it difficult getting call-ups to the first team since the appointment of Erik ten Hag as coach of the Red Devils and joined Bolton Wanderers in the second half of last season in search of playing opportunities.
Shoretire continues to impress for United's youth teams, registering nine goals and four assists in twelve appearances so far this season.
The Newcastle native has been a player of Manchester United since the age of nine and signed his first professional contract in February 2021.
