Galatasaray pundit Kutlu Akpınar has provided an update on the club’s plans for Nigerian midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, suggesting the Burnley loanee faces an uncertain future with the Turkish giants.
Ugochukwu joined the Yellow-Reds during the summer transfer window on loan from Burnley, with Galatasaray holding an option to make the move permanent at the end of the current campaign.
However, the 22-year-old has struggled to establish himself since arriving at Rams Park, failing to start a single game for the Turkish champions across all competitions.
Ugochukwu has made five appearances across the league and UEFA Champions League since completing the move, but has managed just 62 minutes of action.
Speaking in an interview reported by Habersarikirmizi, Akpınar expressed concerns over the midfielder’s long-term future at Galatasaray, stressing that he will need to improve his performances to have a realistic chance of staying at the club.
"I don't think Ugochukwu and Bitshiabu will be part of Galatasaray's long-term plans,” Akpınar stated.
“Ugochukwu will be given a chance, but unless he delivers an exceptional performance, his chances of staying at Galatasaray are almost nil."
Akpınar revealed that Galatasaray are still expected to reinforce their midfield during the January transfer window despite having Ugochukwu in their squad.
"Despite having Ugochukwu at Galatasaray, a midfield transfer is expected during the winter break. Serie A clubs are definitely on their radar,” he concluded.
Ugochukwu will be keen to adapt quickly to life in Istanbul and prove his worth at the club when domestic action resumes following the international break.
