Iwobi's match-winning strike: Alan Shearer praises Fulham star for fooling Man Utd's Cameroon GK
Published: February 25, 2024Premier League's record goalscorer with 260 goals, Alan Shearer has lauded Alex Iwobi for his match-winning strike in Fulham's impressive 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.
Manchester United pressed for the winning goal following Harry Maguire's late equalizer, but ultimately suffered a significant setback when Alex Iwobi, who missed a few opportunities in the first half, scored the game-winning goal.
In the seventh minute of second half stoppage time, the Nigeria international gave Andre Onana the eyes, before placing the ball into the bottom corner following a Fulham counterattack.
Alan Shearer remarked during Premier League Productions' Matchday Live Extra, monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, about the significant number of Fulham players pushing forward and praised their intelligent finish.
The England legend noted how Iwobi deceived Manchester United's Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana, initially appearing to aim for the far post before swiftly redirecting the ball to the near post.
Shearer emphasized the player's agility and skill in returning inside and described Iwobi's goal as superb.
Iwobi's strike is the second latest winning goal conceded by Manchester United in the Premier League.
His international teammate Calvin Bassey opened the scoring when he drilled the ball home from eight yards out in the 65th minute.
