African Games: NFF in talks with Brentford; Bameyi, Daga guaranteed roster spots; Flying Eagles departure date
Published: March 01, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the Nigeria Football Federation have not given up hope on the release of Brentford starlet Benjamin Fredrick for the upcoming 2023 African Games.
The Nigerian Federation have opened a line of communication with the Bees on the release of the central defender who has not reported for international duty since the start of the training camp in Abuja last month.
Those upstairs at the Nigerian Federation are hoping to get a response from the Premier League side today, Friday.
Brentford are not obliged to release Fredrick to the Nigerian Federation as the competition falls outside the recognized Fifa international match calendar
The Simoiben FC product is surely lacking match fitness ahead of the African Games considering the fact that he has not played for Brentford B team since going the distance against Leicester City in the Premier League Cup on February 2.
Since then, Fredrick has been omitted from the matchday squad in five consecutive matches against Reading, Gillingham, Stjarnan FC, FC Metalist 1925 and Kryvbas.
Meanwhile, this website understands that two of Fredrick's teammates from the 2023 Flying Eagles' World Cup team Daniel Bameyi and Daniel Daga are guaranteed roster spots for the African Games barring injuries before the team's departure to Ghana.
Players and officials of the Flying Eagles will depart the nation's capital, Abuja on Tuesday, March 5.
