Published: March 19, 2024
Super Eagles interim coach, Finidi George has spoken about the attitude of players in the camp ahead of the international friendlies against Mali and Ghana respectively.
This is the first time the squad would assemble since losing to Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations last month.
The upcoming games against the Black Stars and the Eagles have been lined up to prepare the team for the 2026 qualifiers that will take place in June.
At least fifteen of the invited players have arrived as at the time of writing this report which includes Fulham stars Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi as well as one of the best players at AFCON, Ademola Lookman.
In his inaugural official interview as the interim coach of the Super Eagles, George has spoken about the mood in the squad and explained why this evening's workout wasn't intense.
"It has been good, we are still waiting for some players but the players that are here now are doing a good job, good training," Finidi said.
"It is not that intense because some of them are just traveling back or getting here but it has been a good feeling.
"The team spirit is good so I am happy about that."
It has been confirmed that reigning CAF Men's Player of the Year Victor Osimhen, Luton Town center-back Gabriel Osho, Empoli fullback Tyronne Ebuehi and Nottingham Forest center forward Taiwo Awoniyi will miss the upcoming games due to injuries..
It remains to be seen whether replacements will be announced for the injured players.
