Morocco 3 Nigeria 5: Adams and Arierhi net braces; Ebrima on target as Future Eagles win 8-goal thriller
Published: March 26, 2024
Nigeria U16s national team showcased their scoring ability by thrashing hosts Morocco 5-3 in an U16 international friendly staged at the Mohammed VI Football Complex on Monday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Future Eagles had a score to settle with the Young Atlas Lions given the manner of their defeat when both teams faced off on Friday, March 22.
Four days ago, the Future Eagles battled back from a two-goal deficit to level the score 2-2 against their Moroccan opponents, but controversy arose in the 80th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to the Young Atlas Lions, which was converted by Ziad Baha.
In yesterday's game, Nigeria showed they meant business right from the off with Remo Academy starlet Daniel Arierhi breaking the deadlock inside three minutes.
And their advantage was doubled in the ninth minute when HB Academy's Rapha Adams found the net but Younes Eder halved the deficit at minute 16.
Supreme Abuja FC's Manneh Ebrima restored Nigeria's two-goal cushion just before the half-hour mark, only for Shadi El Ouazzani to score for the Moroccans to make it 3-2 heading into the interval.
Arierhi and Adams scored their braces in the 55th and 85th minute respectively while Morocco's Wissam Dardak netted the game's final goal at minute 87.
The Future Eagles were still in Morocco as at the time of this report but are due to fly back to Nigeria later today.
