David, Divine and Destiny: The three Nigerian brothers making waves at Barcelona academy
Published: April 13, 2024
The Ejiofor family is experiencing a dream not many can boast of. Three brothers, David Obinna, Divine Ikenna, and Destiny Kosiso, are all turning heads in the famed Barcelona youth academy, La Masia.
According to Barcelona-based sports daily Sport, last Saturday, all three boys managed to score a double in their respective matches, showcasing their incredible goal-scoring prowess.
David netted twice in Cadete B's five-goal haul against Castelldefels, 'Divi' bagged a brace in Infantil B's 5-0 triumph over Canonja, and Destiny played a pivotal role with a pair of goals in Sub-10 A's 7-2 victory on Cornellà's field.
David, the eldest at 14, joined the Barça system after a stint with Espanyol's youth team.
Despite a strong start with U13 teams, he has faced challenges adapting to the physical demands of 11-a-side football.
However, his two goals last weekend hinted at a return to form, reminiscent of his days as a prolific goalscorer as he racked up a remarkable 26 goals during his childhood.
Coaches believe that once he completes his physical growth spurt, David's technical skills and strength can make him a valuable asset.
Divine, or 'Divi' as he's called, arrived at La Masia alongside his brother David. Known for his power and ability to win duels, Divi has thrived in the transition to 11-a-side football this season.
With 12 goals in 23 games, he's the second-highest scorer in Infantil B, showcasing a significant improvement in his finishing and association with teammates.
The youngest of the trio, Destiny Kosiso, is turning heads at an astonishing rate. At just 9 years old, he boasts a remarkable tally of 87 goals in 22 games for Sub-10 A.
His blistering pace, natural goal-scoring instinct, and hard work have made him a standout performer, even bagging 20 goals in the Íscar Cup to help Barça claim the championship.
Ejiofor senior, a former footballer, beams with pride at his sons' opportunity to train at La Masia but only time will tell if they can emulate the success of legendary Barcelona youth families like the Gonzalvos, López, or the Junyents.
