Official: Rangers drop major hint about Super Eagles defender signing a new contract
Published: June 01, 2024With a statement on their official website, Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have confirmed that five first team players will be departing the Ibrox Stadium following the expiry of their contracts.
Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Jon McLaughlin and Kemar Roofe, who were all part of the Rangers squad that reached the final of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2022, have been released.
Rangers have dropped the biggest hint yet that Leon Balogun has been retained for the 2024-2025 season, following his omission from the list of players released.
The experienced Super Eagles central defender returned for a second stint at Rangers last summer, signing a deal until the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.
The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week that Balogun has signed a new one-year deal to stay with Rangers after impressing manager Philippe Clement at the end of the season.
He returned from injury to play in the Scottish Cup final, taking his total appearances for the Light Blues to nineteen across all competitions in the recently concluded season.
Balogun shone as Rangers won the Scottish League Cup in December, helping goalkeeper Jack Butland to post a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Aberdeen.
Another Nigerian international, Cyriel Dessers, has three years remaining on his Rangers contract and will stay with the club unless he is sold during the summer transfer window.
And the same applies to youth team player, Thompson Ishaka who has a valid contract through the 2024-2025 season.
