Most home goals Serie A: Lookman takes Osimhen's crown; top scorer ahead of Martinez, Vlahovic, Dybala
Published: June 02, 2024
Ademola Lookman continued his rich vein of form by getting on the scoresheet for the third game in a row as Atalanta were beaten 3-2 by Fiorentina in a rescheduled Serie A game staged at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Sunday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
After Andrea Belotti opened the scoring in the sixth minute, Lookman brought the game back to parity in the 12th minute when he dinked the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper after a through pass from Charles De Ketelaere.
Lookman's strike was his tenth league goal of the season scored at the Gewiss Stadium, becoming the only player to score double-digits in home matches in the Serie A in 2023-2024 in the process.
The Atalanta number 11 was tied on nine goals with Inter Milan's Lautaro Martínez, Juventus' Dušan Vlahović and Roma's Paulo Dybala before the visit of Fiorentina for the last game of the season.
This is the second consecutive season a Nigeria international finished as top scorer for home goals in the Serie A.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen netted the most home goals in the Serie A for the 2022-2023 campaign with twelve, an honour he shared with Argentina's World Cup-winning striker Martínez.
Lookman had a hand in Atalanta's equalizer that brought the score to 2-2, setting up Giorgio Scalvini at minute 32.
The Super Eagles forward made way for Gianluca Scamacca three minutes before the hour mark, and the good news is that
manager Gian Piero Gasperini's decision to take him off was not related to injury.
Lookman is expected to report for international duty in the coming days ahead of the Super Eagles' crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa's Bafana Bafana and Benin's Cheetahs.
