Elijah Adebayo: Jose Mourinho wants Nigeria's best defensive forward at Fenerbahce
Published: June 13, 2024
Turkish giants Fenerbahçe have identified Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo as a prime target, with negotiations set to begin in the coming days, as per a report from Turkish media outlet Takvim.
The Fulham Academy product has emerged as a sought-after talent, with Fenerbahçe's new coach Jose Mourinho keen to bring him on board.
Last month, CIES Football Observatory ranked Adebayo as the best Nigerian forward in 30 leagues around the world according to the amount of defensive work performed.
His impressive performances for Luton Town have caught the attention of Mourinho, who believes the 26-year-old striker would be a valuable addition to the team.
With Luton Town's relegation from the Premier League, Adebayo is eager to explore new opportunities, and Fenerbahçe are poised to capitalize on the situation.
Fenerbahçe's Sporting Director Mario Branco is scheduled to meet with Luton Town management to discuss the terms of the transfer, which is expected to be in the range of 8-10 million Euros.
Adebayo's current market value, as per Transfermarkt, stands at 12 million euros, making him an attractive prospect for the Turkish club.
He has never played outside England, having grown up in the Fulham infrastructure.
However, with Fenerbahçe's interest and Mourinho's backing, Adebayo may be tempted to make his first move abroad.
Adebayo's stats are impressive, with 10 goals in 27 Premier League matches in the previous season.
His ability to find the net has made him a valuable asset for Luton Town, and Fenerbahçe hope to tap into that potential.
