Official: Berlin-born Nigerian offensive player joins FC Cologne from RB Leipzig
Published: June 18, 2024Through official channels, German 2. Bundesliga side FC Cologne have announced the signing of Berlin-born Nigerian offensive player Chilohem Onuoha.
Predominantly an attacking midfielder, the 19-year-old is also comfortable playing as a center forward and right winger.
Onuoha has joined FC Cologne from RB Leipzig's youth team and will be spending the 2024-2025 campaign on loan at third tier side SC Verl.
Per club policy, FC Cologne have not provided details on the financial terms and length of the deal signed by Onuoha.
He registered five goals and provided three assists in fifteen outings in the A-Junioren Bundesliga North/Northeast over the course of the 2023-2024 campaign.
The versatile forward missed the first three months of last season because he was recovering from a syndesmotic ligament tear.
He started for RB Leipzig in their 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the round of sixteen of the UEFA Youth League last season.
In his first words as a player of FC Cologne, Onuoha said: "I chose FC because I felt a lot of trust in the discussions. I also have the opportunity to develop myself here.
"I have friends in Cologne who have been following FC for a long time and who have told me a lot about the club.
"I really want to be able to play in the RheinEnergieSTADION one day and will work hard to achieve this goal. In order to achieve this, it is a good step to play for SC Verl in the 3rd division in my first year of senior football."
Onuoha, who wore the colours of the youth teams of Hertha BSC and Füchse Berlin in the past, has represented Germany at U19 level.
